Union School Section Number 2 was built 132 years ago in 1882, replacing a log school down the road and now I have to go back to see if that's still around. This school has been closed since 1964. It then became a community centre until condemned and almost met the wrecking ball. The Friends of South Luther Hall were incorporated in 2006, purchased the building in 2008 and received a $50,000 Trillium Foundation Grant in 2010 toward the restoration. When restoring this building and namely behind the blackboard and entire class of names, pictures and other memorabilia from 1901 were found. In 2012 it is now a repurposed community hall again. In closer inspection of the building I found several initials etched into the brick of some very old or deceased students now. The close up picture of an old looking light switch 'round back with the name Kondu on it revealed this. It seems this switch and assembly and me travelled the same distance, but about 92 years apart. In 1921 Kondu Manufacting Co. were working out of Cambridge ON. It was founded in 1918 as Electrical Fittings and Foundry. In the 1970's Kondu was bought out buy Appleton Electric from Chicago. They joined a few companies and became EGS Electrical Group Canada.
