A recent abandonment. Boarded up within the last few months. Not sure what the issue is with this house, it seems fine. Maybe a rodent or critter problem, or underlying rot, who knows. I didn't see or smell any mold.
I love these finds. Even though the house is pretty much empty, I love old farmhouses and admire the old architecture and ways of construction. Like the hand hewn floor joists in the basement with bark still on them. Same as the attic. Split trees with bark still on them for roof joists. Other details like the wood plank floors, original kitchen cupboards, doors, and sometimes original windows. Low ceiling upstairs. Can really feel and smell the weight of the years in these homes. Soo old and such character.
On satellite view we see another barn and silo, that are no longer there. In the upper floor of the smaller barn is a pigeon loft with about two dozen pigeons and doves. They come and go through openings in the side of the barn. A bunch of them were out roaming the property when I arrived.
A real nice plot of land backing onto the Grand River Valley. I wonder what will become of it..

Update - Property is owned by the GRCA. Previous occupants were renters. Home is constructed of hand hewn log beams, very old. Everything on the property is to be demolished, and hopefully repurposed instead of just going to the landfill.

Demolition has begun here. Looks like they are slowly dismantling everything and repurposing any good old lumber..

Stopped in here today, all the pigeons are gone, hopefully just moved to another location. Also, there's now a dumpster on site and a permit letter on a window about an impending demolition. Asbestos removal is currently in progress. Home is of log beam construction underneath the layers of siding. Can smell the mold in there now.

I know, its weird eh. At first you feel sorry for them, then realize.. its their home and they're content. I went back a 2nd time just to feed them LOL . There was a barrel of bird feed up there. The farmer across the road to the east cuts the grass. I drove by this past weekend, some siding has fallen off the front of the house..

I stopped by here a couple weeks ago but had a low battery. Everything was exactly the same, maybe a little more overgrown. The Subaru and pigeons are...unusual to say the least. The pigeons almost seem like they were just left by the last owners..theyre just so familiar and comfortable. And its not like its common to find herds of pigeons normally, even at a farm.
