While driving down Coronation Road in Whitby last summer, I pulled over and checked out a grassy and treed area halfway down the road. I had the sense that a house had once stood there. Little did I know that a village once stood there.

In 1850, Major George FC. deRottenburg sketched out a map of Ontario County. Included on this map was the village of Bagotville. Located on concession 3, lots 30 and 31 Bagotville included a grist mill (foundations still standing), a salt well and a school (photos all below). The community existed until the 1920s at which time it disappeared off the map.

spydrgyrl Yes there was. I also found the foundation of the grist mill and saw mill. :)

spydrgyrl Yes. Also of the sawmill and the gristmill. Be careful walking around, the tall grass is beaten down but there are holes, pits and objects underneath.
