The Empire Hotel

Abandoned Motel/Hotel in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada

Recent status Abandoned
Location # 6956

Built in 1904, the Empire was once a large hotel for a busy business district in the 1930's. As Simpson street eventually turned into the ghetto it is today, the building at some point became a bottom of the barrel apartment. Due to fire code violations, the building was recently shut down and the current tenants had to find a new place to live. The owner walked away and it has since been boarded up and sat unused for around three years. Due to a few fires which weakened the building over the years it started falling apart in late June 2013 and was fenced off for demolition. On June 6th 2013 the building was demolished completely.

Empire hotels used to be a standard in so many smaller Canadian cities.
