These two homes are under scrutiny from the city of Kitchener, who intends to demolish them to expand the property of the neighboring Museum (Joseph Schneider Haus). Demolishing one part of history to expand another.

They were put on the Heritage Registrar in the early 1990s, since they are part of the Victoria Park heritage district.

The city purchased the properties in 1989, in order to prevent them from being bought by a development company with intentions to demolish. They were rented out for a while, later turned into offices before finally being vacated and abandoned.

The public is encouraged to voice their opinions online (I've included the link below), although the likelihood of these houses being saved is minimal.

Update: Despite protest from the historical society and other city members, both houses have been demolished.

What a dumb idea. I don't see why Schneider Haus needs a bigger lawn.
