Hey everyone,

I was looking on google maps and discovered the old route of Highway 144 in Sudbury. It used to follow a path that entered Sudbury through Spruce Street, and followed along a path that now goes through Vale property.

Does anyone have any info on this? Why it was abandoned? Any photos?
The part of the map I posted shows the old road is seperated by a lake. Was there a bridge there?

Judging by the satellite photos, it looks like the route of the Old 144 was taken over by the nice folks at INCO.  It appears to me that the new 144 was rerouted west to avoid the sorry sight of the slag dump and to avoid downtown Sudbury, also they had to go far enough to bypass Whitewater Lake.
