Despite the strange title, this is not a paranormal post, but a few links to a very abnormal yet creative photographic tool used in the mid 1800's for child portrait sessions. 

Waaay back when photography was in its infancy (pardon the pun) a typical portrait session required a relatively long duration of sitting still to expose the image. Often, a mothers touch was the only thing that could keep a squirmy kid still.  Before the dawn of Photoshop, how was one to remove the mother from a portrait? Simple: cover her up with a sheet and make her look like the Grim Reaper!
