I thought it might be an interesting topic to discuss what everyone carries with them when they go exploring.  Not just your camera gear, but what else do you bring?  Tools, clothing, lights, first aid supplies, travel food, etc.

In the vehicle--first aid kit, food and water, GPS, maps, notebook.

In my pockets--camera, spare batteries and memory card, flashlight, knife.

Probably other things too, that I'm forgetting, like the tripod.  Even if I bring it, I usually forget it in the car,

With some of these remote and isolated places, I wonder if it would be a good idea to carry bear spray.

Ideally bear spray, flashlight, sunscreen spray, baseball cap and first aid kit.

Of that list I never remember to take the flashlight out of the car, don't know where the baseball cap is and don't own the remainder.

Here is a list of things I have regretted forgetting or not being equipped with while in an abandonment on more than one occasion:

-flashlight/headlamp
-charged cell phone
-spare camera battery

I'll tell you... on more than one occasion I have also been very grateful to NOT have my wallet, ID, or any money on me. ... Something to keep in mind. ;)

Two cell phones (which also means two flashlights), two cameras, an external partner (aka, while there are two of us, there are never two inside at the same time) and good boots.  No tools......no tools....no masks, no gloves.

That's a good ides about using the buddy system.  I'll keep that in mind.  I get the point of having no tools as well.  I need to consider leaving my pocket knife in the truck.  It's a big folding Buck knife.  It's legal to carry in a pocket, but it's borderline.  If an officer wanted to give me a hard time, it would be fuel on the fire.

I'm amazed no one has mentioned a Hibachi, as well as a cooler full of beer and steaks....

Sounds pretty comprehensive.  Works well for the zombie apocalypse too.

My 2 cents on camera gear...

Full frame DSLRs (for higher isos with less moise)
fast glass for letting in more light.
Prime wide angle lenses( I find a 24mm 1.4 takes amazing shots while in abandon buildings)
Wide angle zooms are good too even tho they usually have smaller aperatures

2 memory slots with fast writing cards
Extra battery is great to have when doing long day trips

Some ideas for you guys! Cheers

I would love to invest in camera gear, but right now, it's all I can do to keep the lights and heat on and food in the fridge.  I need a new job in a bad way.
