Abandoned Ontario Log Mansion

Abandoned Log Mansion

I'd call this a house before I'd call it a mansion. It's found just uphill from a newer housing community in a southern Ontario city. I'd suspect its days are numbered before it gets demolished for newer homes.

The home was constructed out of logs which can be seen on both the exterior and interior of the home. A large stairway spirals to a smaller upper level that overlooks the main floor.

The fireplace is set into a large stone wall that makes up the majority of the wall and an arched doorway. Just beyond the arched doorway is another room with a fireplace. Someone had lit a fire either in the fireplace or on the floor and burned a hole through the floor.

The front doors looked to me like they'd belong on a business. It's difficult to picture them in use as a home but I'm seeing them with the glass smashed out. Above the doors is a circular stained glass window. In another room is a stained glass window of a unicorn.

The kitchen is modern with a fireplace of its own. There's a large exhaust fan set over the stove and a wall unit oven. The ceiling is made up of wooden beams laid out into rectangular shapes. Vandals have torn the counter off and damaged most every pane of glass.

There are three bedrooms on the main floor and two in the basement.

A view of the front of the home as seen from the driveway. This photo was taken at 9 PM when it was almost dark.

A winding staircase leads you into the basement. It was dark by this time so external lighting was used. Here you can see a basement bar (what a shame to see this wooden construction go to waste).

This is a view taken from the top of the staircase on the main floor. There's no railing here, I felt a sense of danger standing here. You can see the extensive vandalism.

Thanks for reading.

There is an abandoned farm at the intersection of Hwy 50 and Hwy 7...it was called Sunnidale Farm...its interesting because, there is an old school house directly behind the main house...and just south of the farm, is another house...presumably housed another member of the family...it would be great to get pics of the inside...before it gets demolished.
