Thunderbird Down

Demolished Commercial in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Recent status Demolished
Location # 11817

Graffitied and rather soggy site of the former Thunderbird Golf and Go-Karts. Operated by Tim Rivers since 1969 (1981 at this location), the circuit closed Oct 16, 2011 when Mr. Rivers finally decided to retire. The land was sold to developers, but residential development seems unlikely as much of the contaminated soil from the Lebreton Flats was "deposited" in this area when the War Museum was built. No, there were no go-karts there when I went 4*4ing in the Avenger...!, they were sold online for $650 each. One item of note is, according to Wikipedia, portions of the multi-Oscar winning film (yes, I am kidding) "Undercover Angel" were shot on this site in 1998/1999. Who says Ottawa is a boring city!!

Included a Streetview screen capture from 2009 for context (and to explain what that sign on the ground was)
