A Highway 60 staple of the 90s: it was in passing Timber Trail, the Howlin' Wolf and Phil Copps' Trading Post that you really knew you had finally reached true cottage/camping country in the Algonquin Highlands. The Howlin' Wolf was a sports bar and collection of cottages that has been sitting vacant and derelict for twenty years.

In the summer of 2013, this bar was even mentioned each week in the opening monologues of each of Algonquin Provincial Park's 50 anniversary Public Wolf Howls. Naturalists used it as an example of how the Public Wolf Howl became such a famous event in Ontario and drew visitors from so far away that even local establishments capitalized on the motif. And they made a point of mentioning how the Public Wolf Howl has lived on after many of these businesses have long disappeared... with a photo on screen of this very vacant building.

Naturally, that immediately put it on the list for stopping on the way home.

Unfortunately not much can be found here. The buildings are completely stripped and falling to pieces. This is more of an open post to satisfy curiosity and maybe keep others from bothering to stop.

I stopped and peaked inside. Bring a light and proper footwear because lots of small animals fled from the kitchen area into the dining area when I started to enter. I only went partway in, but will definitely go all the way in next time! Elkiman.
