Oakhill school was once an elementary school for students from kindergarten to Grade 8, said Shawn McKillop, manager of communications and community relations with the Grand Erie District School Board.
The school was in existence prior to 1969. It closed in September 1983 and students were moved to Bethel-Oakhill school, which has also since closed.
The former Oakhill school was then used for a time by the school board for administration and storage purposes, McKillop said.
The property was sold by the board in October 2008.
A local development company is tearing down the long vacant Oakhill elementary school building and will be readying the property for the development of a 15-estate-lot residential subdivision.
