I was very relectant to post this location without gaining access but i want other explorers to have a chance at trying their luck if they want to before this huge compound is completely leveled. Opened in 1948 and closed in July 2011 these facilities once employed over 2000 workers. 24 hour security has been on site since the plant closure and now that demolition has begun the security presence is even higher. I took these exterior shots while being followed by a couple security guards. Good luck to any and all who try. I'll be returning and trying again. Update June 2014 - The last pieces of this compound have just been flattened and the lot is nearly completely empty now. Absolutely no signs of the former landmark left. So sad an ending to such a major part of Chathams history. Feel free to add any historical pics from when the plant was open, any memories we can save are worth the effort.

I drove by this place every day. Watching it disappear. Unfortunately with my hectic schedule I never took the time to explore this place. Now it's a big empty lot. What a shame.

Yeah gs, I drive by John Deere often and they have round the clock security including a rottweiler.

A similar situation to this happened at the John Deere plant in Welland, and now their whole area has been levelled. It was never even posted as a location. So good job getting this one up here and hopefully you'll encourage extra attention and some galleries before it is all gone.
