These ruins are all that remain of a large stone barn-like structure located on the former property of James Morgan in Sainte Anne de Bellevue on Montreal`s West Island. James was the nephew of Henry Morgan, the founder of the Canadian Retail Empire of the same name. This building was abandoned, probably in the 1940’s or early 1950’s, in favour of two Quonset-style storage huts. In 1945, the Morgan family donated this property along with 240 adjacent wooded hectares of their holdings to McGill University’s MacDonald Agricultural Campus in Sainte Anne de Bellevue Quebec. The Morgans sponsored the creation of the Morgan Arboretum , a mixed use forest preserve at this location with an extensive network of walking, skiing, and snowshoeing trails having conservation and natural education as its primary function.
