During the 1830s, James Almonds arrived in Whitby Township and settled on Concession 2, Lot 35. A small community grew around him, taking the name of Almond Village. Eventually, the village also had a church and a school.

The school was located on the northwest corner, with the church on the southeast one. James Almonds(a) house still sits on the north side of Highway 2. The church burned down in 1917, was rebuilt, and was torn down in 1977.

All that remains of the original village is a small replica of the church on the site where it stood beside the village(a)s cemetery. All of the headstones have been removed.

I think it's all going to become subdivisions soon, there's a lot of construction activity there now.
