Being the oldest building by the Sault canal, this structure first served as the offices for the contractors H. Ryan and Co.. It was originally located on the south side of the canal nearly opposite the Emergency Swing Bridge Dam. After completion of the canal, it was purchased by the Government and assigned to the Assistant Superintendent as his residence. In 1926 the building was moved to the north side of the lower enterance and renovated, it being cheaper than building a new residence. The building was relocated to it(a)s present location in 1981, and I do believe it has hardly been touched since probably late 1990(a)s early 2000(a)s.
