The Native legend of Ghost Lake claims that one day, while most of the villagers were fishing on the lake, the ice cracked into many pieces and all but six of the villagers drowned. The surviving villagers left and never returned on account of the evil spirits they felt were in the area.
In 1880, Horace Lymburner and his son Robert created a mill on Ghost Lake. The 200 foot drop was to great for the wood, so a flume was constructed in 1882. Ghost Lake Mill was quite productive until 1905 when the resources began to dry up.
What about the evil spirits said to be in the area?
In November of 1881, The Jane Miller sank after delivering equipment for the mill. In September 1882, the Nellie Sherwood sank with the first lumber shipment. An employee of the mill also drowned while fishing on the lake.
A film entitled "Ghost Lake" was filmed here in 2000. Although a student film, it recieved "some" review, and was somewhat related to the above story.
