CLINE MINE

The Cline Mine began when Jim Cline staked land in the area of Goudeau in the early 1930's. In 1936 the Cline Mine began extracting minerals from the area.

Cline Mine mine approximately 200 men working for them. To accomodate them, bunkhouses were built along with a school and two dozen homes for the families.

Taxi service was provided to shuttle people between Localsh, Goudreau and the Cline Mine.

The Second World War impacted the Cline Mine. First, gold was no longer a priority commpared to iron and steel. Secondly, many men went overseas to fight in the war. Finally the increasing production costs deal the last blow to the mine. It closed in 1948 and the surrounding communities quickly vacated.
